Legos for Grownups

I created this mind map while watching Legos for Grownups by Hillel Copperman. I should have know better than to try to illustrate a TED talk. They just say so much in a short amount of time. That was what made this the hardest assignment so far; I struggled to keep up with what he was saying. I had to keep pausing the video while I wrote or drew. It was also really difficult to come up with things to draw to represent the lecture...so I ended up mostly using quotes.

Sticky Note Art

I created this as a visual explanation for module 1. During my freshman year, I started creating art on my door with post-it notes. I thought it would be great to make a set of visual instructions for other people to see. The most difficult part was fitting pictures and sequential text together in a logical and appropriate way. I still don't think I got it completely right. I don't particularly like the way the steps weave back and forth along the page, but I think numbering the steps makes it a little better.

Good Data/Bad Data

Information Graphics are visual representations of data, intended to make information quickly and easily understandable. But not every infographic is successful.

This
is a great example of a successful infomation graphic. The image presents a huge number of statistics in a clear and organized way. It has appealing and simple graphics and uses text sparingly, preventing the graphic from being overwhelming.

On the other hand is this information graphic. While the image is clean and the colors are appealing, the graphic is completely unnecessary. The wide range of numbers might be better shown in a graph instead of the large blocks that create an image that has to be scrolled through. Really you don't even need more than a simple table to display this information.
